This module looks at the different technologies that impact the Internet of Things. It introduces the communication framework of IoT, considering short range, medium range, and public networks. The module presents a view of the software structure of IoT systems from IoT operating systems to platforms, and the effort in protocol and middleware development. Finally, an initial view on standardization efforts is supplied.

Roberto Minerva Photo

Roberto Minerva holds a Ph.D in Computer Science and Telecommunications from Telecom Sud Paris, France, and a Master Degree in Computer Science from Bari University, Italy. Roberto is the Chairman of the IEEE IoT Initiative. It aims at aggregating a large technical community of experts and to leverage resources, knowledge, and skills available in IEEE in order to foster the research and innovation in several IoT fields. Roberto is in TILab in the Research Coordination group, where he is currently involved in research activities related to SDN, NFV, 5G, Big Data, architecture for IoT, and ICT technologies for leveraging new business models. He is authors of several papers published in international conferences, books and magazine.
