Motivation in the College Classroom

The goal of this course is to help you understand where a student's motivation comes from and how to consider what motivates students as you design and execute courses and curricula. First, we will identify the three factors of motivation: student competence, confidence and relatedness. Next we will learn how to apply methods for ensuring these three factors of motivation.

Matthew Ohland

Dr. Matthew Ohland, is a Professor of Engineering Education at Purdue University. His research on the longitudinal study of engineering student development, team formation, peer evaluation, and extending the use of active and cooperative learning methods has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the Sloan Foundation. Dr. Ohland serves the IEEE Education Society and also serves ABET as a Program Evaluator for general engineering programs.
