IEEE Tech Talk: Single Pair Ethernet
New IEEE 802.3 standards and technologies deliver power and data over a single pair of wires to address the challenges of ‘operational technology" (OT) automation applications and simplify OT networks. This talk will explore some of the unique features and reasons for Single Pair Ethernet’s growing adoption in the OT space leveraging modern technology to revisit core Ethernet features and speeds suitable for automation and control applications.
This webinar is ideal for professionals, engineers, and anyone involved in OT automation applications.
Instructors:
George Zimmerman
Dr. George Zimmerman is President of CME Consulting, specializing in physical layer communications and powering, active in standardization and development of Ethernet in emerging applications. George recently chaired the IEEE 802.3cg 10 Mb/s single pair Ethernet Task force, standardizing single-pair Ethernet transmission and powering for industrial & building automation, as well as intrasystem and automotive applications. He has been at the forefront in the development and standardization of wired technologies, starting with line-powered DSL in the 1990s, to BASE-T and single-pair Ethernet, including PoE. He holds more than 20 patents, a Ph.D. from Caltech, and a BSEE from Stanford, and is a member of BICSI, TIA TR42, the Ethernet Alliance and a principal member of NEC codemaking Panel 3, representing the Ethernet Alliance, where he chairs the Technical Committee.
Paul Nikolich
Paul Nikolich develops new technologies, technical standards, intellectual property and ventures in data communications and broadband industries as an angel investor and board member of companies in their early stages of development.
He is an IEEE Fellow and Chairman of the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee overseeing technical standards development for wired (e.g., Ethernet) and wireless (e.g., Wi-Fi) networking applications since 2001.
Mr. Nikolich is a partner in YAS Broadband Ventures LLC, holds several patents and has a BS in Electrical Engineering, a BS in Biology and a M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, N.Y.
