Introduction to Radar Systems

  • Online

Radar is a rich sensing modality with a variety of applications. Here we introduce radar systems by framing the system design from the perspective of radar phenomenology and measurement goals. We will discuss how RF propagation and the radar range equation motivate the design of radar systems and describe the primary building blocks of a radar (i.e., mixers, amplifiers, filters, antennas, analog-to-digital conversion, etc.). The impact of each component on the overall system design will be illustrated in terms of radar functionality.
